Arrowhead Game Studios Chief Creative Officer Johan Pilestedt said a small team at the studio is prototyping its next game, while the bulk of the company stays on Helldivers 2, according to gamerant.com.
Pilestedt said about 95% of Arrowhead's staff are still working on Helldivers 2. He added that for now the studio believes making that game better makes more sense than throwing away its momentum.
On the question of a direct sequel, Pilestedt said it only makes sense to make one if it is different enough that both games can exist side by side.

Pilestedt said the biggest competitor to a Helldivers 3 would be Helldivers 2 itself.
