Bethesda to Oversee Obsidian's New Fallout Game
Bethesda confirms it will oversee Obsidian's untitled Fallout entry, with Jill Braff calling it a reporting change. Fallout 5 remains years away.
Bethesda has released an official statement about the future of the Fallout franchise, confirming that it will oversee a new standalone Fallout entry in development at Obsidian Entertainment. The untitled project is separate from the mainline series.
Bethesda president Jill Braff described the arrangement as primarily a change in reporting structure. Obsidian CEO Feargus Urquhart will continue to lead the studio and will report directly to Bethesda. Bethesda Game Studios will continue to lead the Fallout franchise overall.
The mainline future remains distant. Fallout 4 was the last mainline entry and released over a decade ago. Fallout 5 was first teased in 2022 and confirmed in development in July 2026, but it is not expected to launch until after The Elder Scrolls VI. That game still has no release window, trailer, or major update, and Fallout 5 is unlikely to release before 2030.
Remakes of Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas are also in the works. Meanwhile, Xbox restructuring has led to developer job losses and may affect development of upcoming Fallout entries, according to ScreenRant.
