EA Founder Bing Gordon Sets 75 Million Sales Bar for GTA 6

Gordon, speaking on the Sozzi Unleashed show, said people skipping Thanksgiving football to play GTA 6 would also signal success.

Electronic Arts founder Bing Gordon said on the Sozzi Unleashed show that Grand Theft Auto 6 reaching 75 million copies sold would be "mind-blowing," according to GameSpot. Gordon said he arrived at the figure by taking 10% of a 750 million view count he associated with a previous GTA 6 trailer.

Gordon also offered a behavioural measure of the game's success: people playing GTA 6 instead of watching football on Thanksgiving, a few days after its release.

The remarks come ahead of the Rockstar Games title's launch, which is set for a few days before Thanksgiving. GTA 6 is published by Take-Two Interactive.

Estimates circulating before release are far below Gordon's threshold. Sensor Tower data cited in earlier coverage claims the game has sold about 7 million copies so far, generating close to $700 million in revenue, and projects 25 million preorders by launch, about $2 billion in revenue.

Separately, Circana data shows nearly 1 in 3 US console and PC gamers plan to buy GTA 6, which the firm described as the highest purchase intent it has ever recorded.
