Build A Rocket Boy files for administration after MindsEye flop

Build A Rocket Boy, the studio behind MindsEye, has filed for administration in the UK following heavy losses and a troubled launch.

Build A Rocket Boy has submitted an administration filing to the UK's Companies House, as first reported by Eurogamer. The studio has hired Opus Advisory Group to act as its administrator.

The move follows a difficult period for the company. MindsEye, its standalone release, launched in June 2025 on PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S and was poorly received by both critics and players. Studio CEO and CTO Mark Gerhard described the launch as the worst in history.

Financial filings paint a stark picture. For the 12 months ending 30th September, Build A Rocket Boy reported a £47.5m operating loss and a £36.2m net loss, with creditors owed £61.8m at that time.

The studio was founded in 2016 by GTA veteran Leslie Benzies. Its first game, Everywhere, was announced in 2022. MindsEye was initially unveiled as a component of Everywhere before being spun out as a standalone title.
