Belmont's Curse Producer Hopes Next Castlevania Won't Take a Decade
Tsutomu Taniguchi said his intention is to eventually make another Castlevania, but he does not yet know what shape it would take.
Tsutomu Taniguchi, producer of Castlevania: Belmont's Curse, said his intention is to eventually make a next Castlevania game, though he does not yet know what form it would take, according to an interview reported by Famitsu and relayed by Nintendo Everything. He added that a ten-year wait for another entry would make the whole effort meaningless.
Taniguchi said Konami is currently focusing entirely on the release of Belmont's Curse. Development of that game, he said, began partly from a sense of urgency.
He also said the number of people actually playing Castlevania has decreased, while awareness of the series without play has increased.
The last Castlevania game, Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2, was released 12 years ago. Konami's Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain preceded a period of reduced game output from the publisher.
The new release coincides with the 40th anniversary of the original Castlevania, which launched around 1986. Netflix's Castlevania animated series featured Trevor and Sypha from Castlevania 3, with Rose Belmont as their daughter in Belmont's Curse.
