Deus Ex third-person mod adds Max Payne-style shoot-dodging

YouTuber dan2091 showed a work-in-progress mod that lets JC Denton dual-wield pistols, change clothes and roll while shooting.

YouTuber dan2091 has posted several videos over the past week showing a work-in-progress third-person mod for the original Deus Ex, according to PC Gamer. The footage shows protagonist JC Denton moving and fighting from a new camera perspective.

The mod includes a dual-wielding system that works in both first-person and third-person view. In third-person, JC Denton can roll and shoot-dodge while dual-wielding pistols, in a style reminiscent of Max Payne.

It also adds a system for dressing JC Denton in different clothes, along with bespoke ladder climbing animations.

Older third-person experiments

Deus Ex was developed by Ion Storm and released as a first-person game. Later entries, Deus Ex: Human Revolution and Deus Ex: Mankind Divided, switched to third-person view for cover and takedowns.

A new Deus Ex game by Eidos Montreal was reportedly cancelled by Embracer Group. Adam Jensen's voice actor Elias Toufexis confirmed the series would not return this year.
