Modder Revives Retro Forever First-Person Mod for World of Warcraft Forever

Retro Forever is in early development and not yet playable, with the modder planning to start with the Mage class before expanding.

Modder Arhkain has revived Retro Forever, a project that aims to turn World of Warcraft Forever into a first-person experience with combat animations, according to PCGamesN. The project is in its early stages and is not yet available to download or play.

Arhkain first started work on the idea during the Classic Hardcore days, using WeakAuras to draw graphics on screen, but set the files aside when time got in the way. The project has now been restarted after Arhkain played the World of Warcraft Forever beta.

Built on a WeakAuras fork

Retro Forever builds on ForeverAuras, a fork of WeakAuras created after the original tool stopped development following Blizzard's new combat mod restrictions. Those restrictions complicate the synchronisation of graphics and sound, which the project has to work around.

Arhkain plans to begin with the Mage class and expand to other classes if there is interest. The current 2D art in Retro Forever is adapted from or inspired by Hexen, Daggerfall and Doom.

The modder has wanted to play World of Warcraft from a first-person camera since 2004, according to PCGamesN.
