Final Fantasy 7 Revelation Opens Hard Mode From the Start

Director Naoki Hamaguchi also confirmed Dynamic Mode returns, scaling enemies to the party's level in the 2027 release.

Final Fantasy 7 Revelation will let players switch on Hard Mode from the very beginning, series director Naoki Hamaguchi announced. According to Polygon, the mode also drops the item restrictions, opening the door to any type of build.

Hamaguchi said the decision was tied to the game's post-game content: finishing the story unlocks extensive material, so players are not forced to clear a first playthrough before they can raise the difficulty.

Dynamic Mode also returns. It scales enemies to the party's current level, keeping encounters in line with how the player has built the group.

Changing difficulty will likely require restarting the current chapter, Hamaguchi said, so players should expect a checkpoint before switching modes.

Earlier entries locked difficulty

Final Fantasy 7 Remake and Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth required players to finish the game before higher difficulty modes became available. Hamaguchi has worked on the Final Fantasy 7 Remake series for nearly a decade.

Final Fantasy 7 Revelation is scheduled to launch on April 8, 2027, for PS and PC.
