Square Enix to discontinue Poetics currency in Final Fantasy XIV

Director Naoki Yoshida told players to hold on for a few more months before the Allagan Tomestone of Poetics is removed.

Square Enix announced at the Final Fantasy XIV Fan Festival 2026 in Tokyo that the Allagan Tomestone of Poetics currency will be discontinued, according to news.denfaminicogamer.jp. Producer and director Naoki Yoshida said players should keep at it for a few more months before Poetics is removed.

The company also outlined a change to fishing: bait will be managed in a list and will no longer need to be held as items. A "bait notebook" term was mentioned during the presentation.

A further function will let players filter only the bait usable at their current fishing spot.

An item introduced in 2014

Poetics was introduced in 2014 as one of the Allagan Tomestones and has been in use for about 12 years. Allagan Tomestones are obtained mainly by clearing level 50 and above dungeons and trials, and are exchanged with NPCs for gear.

Square Enix did not give a specific date for the removal, with Yoshida indicating only that it would come in a few months.
