Fishlabs announces layoffs across development and support teams
German studio Fishlabs says the workforce reductions follow changing project requirements but has not disclosed how many roles are affected.
Fishlabs has announced workforce reductions affecting its development and support teams. The German studio did not say how many employees are affected, according to gamesindustry.biz.
Fishlabs attributed the decision to changing project requirements and the needs of its clients and internal teams. The studio said it remains committed to its partner projects and its teams.
Fishlabs is owned by Plaion, which in turn sits under Embracer Group. In 2023 the studio cut 50 roles as part of Embracer Group's restructuring programme.
The studio was founded in 2004 by Michael Schade and Christian Lohr. It was acquired by Plaion, then known as Koch Media, in 2013.
Before that acquisition, Fishlabs filed for the equivalent of bankruptcy, a process that resulted in the termination of 25 positions. Schade and Lohr later left the company and founded Rockfish Games in 2014; earlier this year Rockfish was awarded €8 million from the German government's expanded €125 million games fund to support development of the next Everspace shooter game.
