PLAY Mephistowaltz unveils dark fantasy platformer Flame On Sire for PC
The South Korean studio's Steam roguelike builds combat around five flame colors, with CEO Minam Hong citing Hades as a comparison point.
PLAY Mephistowaltz has unveiled Flame On Sire, a dark fantasy action game in development for PC via Steam, with no release date set. The Gimhae, South Korea-based studio showed the game to 4gamer.net, which reported that the Steam store page lists Japanese among its supported languages.
The premise is that the fire god gave humanity the god's own soul, and that the revived king's life burns as soul fire until it goes out. A teaser video shows a blue flame descending onto something lying on a circular pedestal in a purple wasteland of dead trees.
CEO Minam Hong describes the core as platforming action with character progression and roguelike elements. Hong cited Hades as a comparison point but said Flame On Sire leans more toward platform action and exploration. Combat includes combos, aerial attacks, finishers and an element called Overdrive, and souls from defeated enemies serve as both experience and the king's life force.
Five flames, five abilities
The Flame Core System maps five flame colors — red, blue, black, gold and purple — to power, speed, defense, absorption and madness. In a demo played with an Xbox gamepad, with LT for skills and Y for a healing potion, the player gained a bow after starting with only a sword; falling while crossing platforms is a hazard while enemies attack. Dying triggers an upgrade screen where points can be assigned to five abilities.
The booth key visual uses fine copperplate-style lines to depict the fallen king, while in-game the king is a rounded, crowned skull with a somewhat cute look. The game is billed as a dark fantasy sprinkled with fragments of humor and tragedy. The studio started as a one-person developer and now numbers nine people; it released Potty Knight Saga in 2024, Slayer : the Demon Haunted World in 2025 and Little Gods of the Abyss in 2026, the last published by GRAVITY.
