Future? No Thanks! update removes two AI voices as developer offers refunds
Paolo Pedercini also raised gig payouts to prevent players being soft-locked, and said his next game will be hand-coded.
Molleindustria has released an update for Future? No Thanks! that removes two text-to-speech voices generated with AI, according to Rock Paper Shotgun. The voices had been used for in-game robot characters: an automated toilet and an automated translator in a hair salon.
Lead developer Paolo Pedercini is offering refunds by PayPal or Venmo to players who still feel betrayed by the AI voice disclosure. He said the two AI voices had replaced earlier recorded voices made earlier this year.
The same update raises the money awarded by gigs, aimed at reducing cases where players are soft-locked out of completing all quests.
Pedercini also published a second blog post responding to the backlash, writing that his original post was hastily written and not good. He added that his next game will be completely hand-coded.
Steam's rules on AI tools
Earlier this week, Pedercini disclosed his use of generative AI in Future? No Thanks!. In January 2025, Valve updated Steam's rules to allow "efficiency" tools such as coding assistants.
