Gearbox Promises More Borderlands 4 Content Next Year, Seeks Fan Input

Gearbox will keep Weekly Activity refreshes and Community Challenges running while it works on new Borderlands 4 content for next year.

Gearbox said on November 2, 2026 that it will continue Weekly Activity refreshes and Community Challenges for Borderlands 4 while it works on more content for next year, according to ign.com.

The studio also said it is exploring additional character arcs, storylines and an overall direction for the future of the franchise, and asked fans to share which characters they want to spend more time with and which stories deserve a payoff.

Gearbox said fans can send their input through social media and the Gearbox Devcast, its community show, and that it will talk more about its plans when the time is right.

Earlier turbulence

Borderlands 4 launched in September and drew controversy, mostly over severe PC performance issues. Take-Two's Strauss Zelnick later said the game's sales had suffered "a little bit of softness" because of technical issues but expressed confidence the shortfall would be made up over time. The Nintendo Switch 2 version was scrapped, with Take-Two saying Gearbox prioritized improvements on existing platforms.

Borderlands 4 opened to over 300,000 concurrent players on Steam but now averages a concurrent peak in the four digits and still holds a "mixed" user review rating on the platform. The Borderlands franchise has crossed 100 million units sold.
