Wilderdark launches on Steam on November 10
Team Junkfish's survival horror game sends players to an island of infected dinosaurs, and a free Steam Next Fest demo is out now.
Wilderdark, the survival horror game from indie studio Team Junkfish, launches on Steam on Tuesday, November 10.
The game strands players on an unnatural island in search of immortality, following the same route taken by the protagonist's parents, who traveled there before and vanished. The island's dinosaurs carry a mysterious ectoparasitic organism that produces glowing growths on their skin.
Play centers on crafting, setting up camp, gathering resources and collecting samples from creatures and plants. A camera is used to photograph and scan organisms, which makes stealth a central part of play.
A free demo released as part of the latest Steam Next Fest is available now. Reviews of the demo are mixed, due in large part to technical issues carried over from an older demo build.
Where Wilderdark sits
Dinosaur survival games have found commercial success before — Ark: Survival Evolved performed well despite a rough-edged build — while others such as The Isle have spread through viral videos built around proximity chat. Jurassic World Evolution 3 has been described as the best licensed dinosaur game, though it leans on theme park management rather than survival.
