Gravity Well Lays Off Over 40 Developers After Funding Loss

The Respawn Entertainment alumni studio cut most of its team after losing funding this summer and failing to secure a new partner.

Gravity Well has laid off more than 40 developers, the majority of its team, after the studio lost its funding this summer and failed to secure a new partner. Leadership informed the team of the situation as it unfolded, according to gamesindustry.biz.

A much smaller team will continue at the studio as it fights for survival. The layoffs follow the loss of the studio's funding earlier this year and its ongoing search for a new partner.

Gravity Well was founded by Respawn Entertainment alumni, including Drew McCoy, Jon Shiring and Mon Saetern. In October 2025, the studio was still operating with its full team before the funding was lost.
