GTA VI map said to match GTA IV, GTA V and Red Dead Redemption 2 combined
Rockstar North's Rob Nelson gave the comparison in an Edge interview, which also detailed 600,000 NPC animations and denser interiors.
Grand Theft Auto VI's map is comparable in size to the maps of Grand Theft Auto IV, Grand Theft Auto V and Red Dead Redemption 2 combined, according to Rockstar North development director and co-studio head Rob Nelson. Edge published the interview, conducted while Nelson played the game for 90 minutes, and GamesRadar+ reported on it on October 29.
Rockstar development director and co-studio head Aaron Garbut said in the same interview that Grand Theft Auto VI contains far more interior areas than Grand Theft Auto V.
Around 600,000 animations were created for the game's NPCs, each individually directed, according to the interview. NPCs have individual temperaments and aggression levels that change how they react to player actions, and that makeup differs by district.
The interview also covered road widths, the day-night cycle, wind and waves, and how quickly rain dries.
Earlier size reports
It was previously reported that the map is twice the size of Grand Theft Auto V's and three times the size of Red Dead Redemption 2's. Grand Theft Auto VI is scheduled for release on November 19, 2026.
