id Software Says About Half Its Staff Left in Xbox Layoffs
Co-director Marty Stratton discussed the cuts at a Doom: The Dark Ages - Revelations press event and said id and MachineGames are collaborating closely.
About half of id Software's staff exited as part of the Xbox layoffs, the studio's co-director Marty Stratton said at a press event for Doom: The Dark Ages - Revelations, according to IGN.
Stratton said at the same event that id Software is now working more closely with MachineGames than ever before. He noted that the closer collaboration between the two Bethesda studios began earlier this year, before the layoffs took place.
Both teams work under Bethesda and Xbox. MachineGames, based in Sweden, is the studio behind the recent Wolfenstein games and Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, which it released in 2024.
Stratton said both studios are excited about what they have ahead. Xbox CEO Asha Sharma has publicly said she wants Xbox's development teams to double down on their biggest franchises.
MachineGames studio head Jerk Gustafsson has said the studio is not done with Wolfenstein yet. A Wolfenstein TV series is also in development at Amazon.
