itch.io Expands AI Notices and Adds No-AI Filter, Deletes Terabytes

itch.io now requires AI notices for tabletop games, books, comics and soundtracks, and its no-AI search filter returns 43,057 Linux games.

itch.io has expanded its required AI notices to cover tabletop games, books, comics and soundtracks in addition to video games, and added a search option that filters out anything with an AI notice. The update was reported on November 3, 2026.

The platform also deleted a couple terabytes of AI-generated content from the store. According to gamingonlinux.com, the number of game pages created per day has doubled in the past two months.

The new no-AI filter has a measurable effect on search results: filtering only Linux games on itch.io gives 153,734 results, which drops to 43,057 with the no-AI option enabled.

Unlike Steam, itch.io requires no payment to upload content and has essentially no curation on what goes live. In the past, this led to issues such as people uploading games others made and copyrighted assets.
