Jagex Announces Fourth Mainline RuneScape Game at RuneFest
The new RuneScape entry will be the first mainline game in the series to run on Unreal Engine, Jagex said at RuneFest in Birmingham.
Jagex announced at RuneFest in Birmingham that a fourth mainline RuneScape game is in development, according to Kotaku. The project will be the first mainline entry in the series to use Unreal Engine.
The studio also announced an animated RuneScape adaptation. Streamer MoistCr1tikal, also known as Charlie White, is attached to the animated project, which will be handled by the studio Lyrical.
Jagex says the new mainline game is still a few years away. The spin-off RuneScape: Dragonwilds runs on Unreal Engine 5, while mainline RuneScape games have used the in-house RuneTek engine. Old School RuneScape is based on a 2007 build of the 2001 game.
Lyrical is the studio behind How To Blow Up A Pipeline and Onslaught, as well as the upcoming Bloodborne film.
