Jagex announces RS4, a new RuneScape game built in Unreal Engine
Jagex revealed RS4 at RuneFest, saying it will sit alongside existing RuneScape titles and is still a few years from release.
Jagex announced at RuneFest that a fourth major RuneScape game is in development under the working title RS4, and that it is being built in Unreal Engine. A trailer for the project was shown at the event.
The studio said RS4 is designed to sit alongside the existing RuneScape titles rather than replace them. The game is set in the Sixth Age, years after the events of RuneScape: Dragonwilds, with players starting in the Ashenfall area.
Jagex also said RS4 is still a few years away from release. More details on the game and on a second announcement are planned for next year.
Animated series in the works
Alongside RS4, Jagex announced a RuneScape animated series being developed by Lyrical Animation in partnership with YouTuber MoistCr1TiKaL, according to Engadget.
The current RuneScape roster includes RuneScape, Old School RuneScape and RuneScape: Dragonwilds. In October 2025, Polygon reported that RS4 was originally conceived as an expansion to RuneScape: Dragonwilds called Shadows of Ashenfall before the development process led to a pivot to a standalone game.
