Kashihara City expands Street Fighter town-building, seeks donations for fifth object
The Nara city plans a 29-character mural at Kintetsu Yamato-Yagi Station and is raising funds for a fifth Street Fighter object in fiscal 2026.
Kashihara City in Nara Prefecture is expanding its Street Fighter-themed town-building project and has begun soliciting donations for a "Street Fighter Object Production Project" to create a fifth and subsequent object in fiscal 2026, according to gamebiz.jp. The move follows the decision to register the Asuka-Fujiwara Palaces as a World Cultural Heritage site.
At Kintetsu Yamato-Yagi Station, a plan for a "Street Fighter Street" is underway. It includes a giant wall mural about 2.7 meters high and about 9 meters wide featuring 29 characters, among them Ryu and Chun-Li.
For one year from July 31, 2026, in-station announcements voiced by the actors who play Ryu and Chun-Li will introduce sightseeing spots in the city.
The city and Capcom signed a comprehensive partnership agreement on August 30, 2022, the series' 35th anniversary. Since then, four bronze statues of Ryu, Chun-Li, Ken and E. Honda have been installed in the city, along with design manholes, decorated station name signs and a sightseeing map. The Chun-Li statue was realized through government crowdfunding using furusato tax donations, and the mural at the north fountain plaza of Kintetsu Yamato-Yagi Station was donated by the Kashihara Rotary Club.
The series is also tied to the live-action film "Street Fighter: The Movie," which opens worldwide on October 16, 2026, distributed by Towa Pictures and Toho.
