Liquid Swords, developer of Samson, reportedly filed for bankruptcy

Around 30 employees are affected and will be covered by Sweden's state wage guarantee, while the trustee seeks a buyer for the studio.

Swedish studio Liquid Swords, developer of Samson: A Tyndalston Story, has reportedly been put into bankruptcy, with around 30 employees affected. The bankruptcy order is thought to have been issued on 12th October, according to a report by Break It relayed by PC Gamer.

The employees will be compensated through the Swedish state wage guarantee. The bankruptcy trustee is now looking for a buyer for the studio.

The report also says Liquid Swords had not paid its developers for months before the filing.

From Avalanche to Samson

Christofer Sundberg, co-founder of Just Cause developer Avalanche Studios, set up Liquid Swords in 2020. Samson: A Tyndalston Story was the studio's first game, launching on PC on 8th April and arriving on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S on 21st September.

The studio initially had difficulty securing a publisher, and reviews of the game were mixed, with complaints about technical and performance issues.

The news follows a wave of cutbacks across the industry. On 22nd September, Xbox confirmed 268 more layoffs and moved Rare and World's Edge under Activision, which will now develop the next Halo game, while opening consultation on a proposed closure of Ninja Theory. Supermassive Games appears to have lost more than 70 staff earlier this month.
