Xbox CEO Asha Sharma announced that Maria Angelidou-Smith is taking on the role of Mojang CEO, replacing Kayleen Walters. Walters moves to become president of XP, another wing of Xbox.
Sharma said Angelidou-Smith's first order of business is to learn from the teams and communities that make Minecraft so special.
Angelidou-Smith joins Mojang from Reddit, where she became chief product officer in November 2024. From 2014 to 2022, she worked at Meta on app monetization and then Facebook Groups and Dating.
Walters departs Mojang after a period in which Minecraft garnered over 250 licensees, and she was a named producer on the A Minecraft Movie sequel. The first A Minecraft Movie was a success.
