Miyamoto Receives Japanese Government Honor for Gaming Contributions

The Nintendo developer credited his teams for the award and took questions on AI in game development at a press conference.

Nintendo developer Shigeru Miyamoto was recognized by Japan's government for his contributions to gaming at a Culture Day ceremony, according to kotaku.com. At a press conference afterward, Miyamoto answered journalists' questions, including on the role of AI in game development.

Miyamoto credited the honor to the teams he has worked with rather than to himself alone. He described game development as shaping experiences for the living room.

He said he joined Nintendo in 1977, nearly 50 years ago. He also recalled worrying about both the industry and the company during the shift from the GameCube to the Wii.

More recently, Miyamoto said he has worked with Universal Studios Japan on Super Nintendo World. He also said he once opposed adapting his games into films, but his view changed as Nintendo characters gained fans beyond gaming.
