MobyGames Professional Lets Devs Claim Credits

MobyGames launches a premium tier that lets developers claim game credits and customise portfolios, with a full 1.0 release due this autumn.

MobyGames, the long-running video game database, now allows developers to claim their credits and customise personal portfolios through a new premium tier called MobyGames Professional. The service launched in beta in June, with a full 1.0 version planned for this autumn.

The verification process for claiming credits is human-driven and runs in the background. According to product manager Reece Denzel, signups have been strong, with thousands of developers already claiming their pages. The process has not changed since Atari became involved with the site.

There are limits to what developers can do. They cannot edit structural information about their credits, and they cannot add themselves back if they were dropped from a game's credits entirely.

MobyGames Professional costs $14.99 a month, or $11.99 a month with an annual subscription. A 45-day free trial is currently available. Atari acquired MobyGames in March 2022.

The issue of proper crediting has been a recurring concern in the industry. Donkey Kong Country Returns HD shipped with credits missing the original game's development staff. Former Retro Studios engineer Zoid Kirsch said he was let down by the lack of individual credits in Metroid Prime Remastered. Translators contracted from firms outside Nintendo have also voiced disappointment at not being credited for work on high-profile games.
