Capcom: Switch 2 Monster Hunter Wilds Runs at Stable 30FPS

Capcom producer Genki Sunano says the Switch 2 version of Monster Hunter Wilds was built as a natural experience, not a scaled-down port, and runs at a stable 30FPS.

Capcom has shared new details about the Nintendo Switch 2 version of Monster Hunter Wilds, confirming the game runs at a stable 30FPS in handheld mode, including during multiplayer hunts. Producer Genki Sunano said the port was developed to deliver a natural experience rather than a simple scaled-down version of the game.

Sunano described the porting process as painstaking and at times seemingly endless, involving one-by-one decisions and optimisations. The goal, he said, was to make the Switch 2 version feel like a proper Monster Hunter experience rather than a compromised conversion.

Capcom also plans to apply the knowledge gained from the Switch 2 port to performance improvements for existing platforms ahead of Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance. That suggests the work done for Nintendo's hardware could benefit players on other systems as well.

Context

The Switch 2 port, including all free DLC updates and local co-op, will be available on 5th December. Monster Hunter Wilds has had infamous performance complaints on other platforms, making the stability of the Switch 2 version a notable point for Capcom.

Capcom's other Switch 2 projects, such as Pragmata and Resident Evil Requiem, have been well-received. The company plans to release the massive new content update Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance at some point in 2027, and aims to surpass the popularity of Monster Hunter World. Eurogamer reported the details.
