Nintendo to keep making video content after 2027 Zelda film

Nintendo's Q&A summary says film projects fit its console business and that it will keep investing in video production beyond 2028.

Nintendo published the Q&A summary of its second-quarter financial results briefing and management policy briefing for the fiscal year ending March 2027 on November 6, 2026, setting out how it plans to keep building its video business after the live-action The Legend of Zelda film arrives in 2027.

President Shuntaro Furukawa said the company plans to keep delivering new video content after that film's release. Director and Senior Executive Officer Yusuke Beppu said film projects are highly compatible with Nintendo's dedicated game console business.

Beppu said Nintendo will continue investing in video production beyond 2028, using revenue from theatrical releases and secondary use of its films for reinvestment.

Playing together

Beppu also cited a survey of viewers of The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, which found satisfaction was higher among people who watched in pairs than alone, and higher still among groups of four. He pointed to the four controller ports on the Nintendo 64 as an example of Nintendo's long-standing emphasis on playing together.

Nintendo has said in recent years that it wants to actively pursue the video field, citing the strong affinity between the video business and the dedicated game console business.
