Free GTA V mod built on NPCTalk AI toolkit due next week
The open-source NPCTalk toolkit from Universal Modder is already on GitHub under the MIT license; a playable GTA V mod follows next week.
Universal Modder will release a free, playable Grand Theft Auto V mod built with its NPCTalk AI toolkit next week, the developer announced. The toolkit itself is already available on GitHub under the MIT license, according to wccftech.com.
NPCTalk is an open-source modding toolkit that enables real-time spoken conversations with non-player characters in Grand Theft Auto V. The current implementation has been demonstrated only in the single-player mode of GTA V Legacy.
The system relies on Nvidia Nemotron ASR for speech recognition and Qwen 3.8 27B, served through Cerebras, for dialogue generation. Voice cloning and speech synthesis are handled by Fish Audio Drama 3, which runs on a cloud Nvidia H100 GPU.
Technical documentation reports latency of 1.15 to 2.2 seconds with push-to-talk, plus about 0.7 seconds of additional delay when open-microphone detection is used. Universal Modder had initially advertised response times below one second.
The project was developed with the assistance of Claude Code, and reusable AI-agent skills compatible with tools such as Codex, Cursor and Gemini CLI were packaged alongside it.
