Open-Source Mod Lifts Oblivion Remastered FPS by 42% on One Test Rig
A fan's Oblivion Remastered Performance Fix, built with Claude Opus 5.5, cut traversal hitches and raised frame rates in benchmarks run mainly on a single Ryzen 7 5800X and RX 9070 XT system.
A Reddit user known as LTSharpe has released an open-source mod called Oblivion Remastered Performance Fix for The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered, according to wccftech.com. The mod was built over roughly two and a half weeks of AI-assisted reverse engineering, profiling and optimization using Anthropic's Claude Opus 5.5, and contains approximately 40 engine-level optimizations.
In an Imperial City flythrough at 4K with FSR Performance and Frame Generation enabled, average frame rate rose from 72 to 102 FPS and 1% lows from 33 to 45 FPS. Traversal hitches over 50 ms fell from 19.5 to 4.8 per run in the same benchmark. A separate Cheydinhal test climbed from 64 to 91 FPS, with 1% lows improving from 50 to 68 FPS.
A test without FSR Frame Generation showed 1% lows improving from 26 to 43 FPS. The mod also adds support for AMD's machine-learning-based FSR Frame Generation on Radeon RX 9000 GPUs when the FSR 3.1.4 library is installed.
LTSharpe published the v1.0.0 beta release with source code and reproducible benchmarking tools. Installation is done by extracting the supplied files into the game's directory. Testing was done primarily on a single system with a Ryzen 7 5800X CPU and a Radeon RX 9070 XT GPU.
Background
Since launch, The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered has suffered from CPU bottlenecks, inconsistent frame rates and traversal stuttering, especially on NVIDIA GPUs. LTSharpe upgraded from a GeForce RTX 2070 SUPER to a Radeon RX 9070 XT, and the game's performance problems on his Ryzen 7 5800X system remained.
