Ocarina of Time Remake Preview Confirms Owl Loop Cut
A preview of the Switch 2 remake shows Kaepora Gaebora now speaks once and flies off, alongside new jumping and weapon cycling.
A preview of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake has confirmed that the repeated dialogue loop with the owl Kaepora Gaebora outside Hyrule Field has been removed, according to screenrant.com. The remake launches on the Nintendo Switch 2 on November 5, 2026.
In the remake, Kaepora Gaebora speaks once and then flies off, rather than asking the player whether they understood. The game was previewed at the NYC 2026 Nintendo holiday showcase.
The preview also detailed several control changes. Players can jump on command, and can switch weapons without opening the inventory, cycling between them as in Breath of the Wild. The remake adds the ability to dash after rolling.
Navi, the fairy companion, now has full voice-acted lines in cutscenes, and her "listen" and "watch out" lines are less repetitive.
An old frustration, revisited
In the 1998 Ocarina of Time, the owl's long explanation ended with a question whose default answer was "no", repeating the dialogue. Link met Kaepora Gaebora several more times in the original, each time with the repeating option selected by default.
