Ocarina of Time Switch 2 remake previews praise snappy performance
Hands-on previews of Nintendo's Ocarina of Time remake highlight a smoother, more responsive game than the 20 fps N64 original.
First hands-on previews of Nintendo's remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time for Switch 2 were published this week, with previewers praising a smoother, more responsive game than the original. Polygon's Michael McWhertor described the remake as snappy, streamlined and polished in ways that make it feel totally fresh.
Previewers noted the remake feels frictionless and responsive, in contrast to the Nintendo 64 original, which runs at 20 frames per second.
The remake appears to have been developed by one of Nintendo's internal teams. Nintendo will ship the game fully on a physical game card for Switch 2, according to the studio's plans reported by Polygon.
In October 2025, the earlier 3DS version, Ocarina of Time 3D, was developed by external studio Grezzo, which also made the 2019 Link's Awakening remake for Nintendo.
