Order of the Sinking Star launches in Japan on Switch 2 and PS5

Thekla's puzzle adventure includes over 1,000 puzzles across four worlds, and a release trailer was published for its Japanese console debut.

The Japanese version of Order of the Sinking Star was released for Nintendo Switch 2 and PlayStation 5 on October 29, 2026, according to 4gamer.net. A release trailer was published alongside the Japanese console launch.

Order of the Sinking Star is a large-scale puzzle adventure developed by Thekla. Players explore four worlds and tackle more than 1,000 puzzles. Each world has its own rules and story, with characters including a queen, thieves, a warrior, a magician and a talking ship.

The game uses dozens of puzzle mechanics, adding new elements as the player progresses. When characters from different worlds meet, their mechanics combine into new puzzles.

The PC (Steam) version of Order of the Sinking Star was released on October 9, 2026, and the Switch 2 and PS5 versions had already been released overseas before the Japanese console launch. Jonathan Blow worked on the game for about ten years after the release of The Witness.

The game is built on four works: Alan Hazelden's Skipping Stones to Lonely Homes and Mirror Isles, Sean Barrett's Promesst and Jonah Ostroff's Heroes of Sokoban.
