Pearl Abyss Europe CEO Says Critics Had Limited Time With Crimson Desert
Lybee Park suggested Crimson Desert's lower critic scores stemmed from reviewers playing a different build with insufficient time.
Lybee Park, CEO of Pearl Abyss' Europe branch, said in an interview that Crimson Desert's critic reviews were lower than user reviews because critics had limited time to play the game, according to gamesradar.com.
Park said critics had to play a build that was not the same version as the launched game. She added that the typical reviewing approach of following the main quest line does not showcase Crimson Desert's strengths.
Crimson Desert currently sits at 77 on Metacritic against an 8.7 user score. On Steam, Crimson Desert Enhanced has 83% positive lifetime user reviews and 77% positive recent reviews.
Background
In the launch period, Crimson Desert was a different, meaningfully worse game that has since received approximately eight bazillion updates. Crimson Desert Enhanced, an improved version, replaced the original less than a year after launch, and the central story of Crimson Desert was directly patched with the release of the Enhanced version. GamesRadar's own Crimson Desert review awarded the game 4 out of 5 stars.
