Two Unannounced PlayStation Devices Appear in Wi-Fi Certification
The Wi-Fi Alliance certified two devices listed as Gaming Console/Peripherals under model numbers CFI-Y2000 and CFI-Y2105, with no word yet from Sony.
Two unannounced PlayStation devices have shown up in certification documents filed with the Wi-Fi Alliance, according to The Verge. The listings carry the model numbers CFI-Y2000 and CFI-Y2105 and describe the hardware as "Gaming Console/Peripherals."
The certification covers 1x1 2.4GHz and 5GHz Wi-Fi, but not 6GHz. The documents also state that the devices run Android 15. No product name, price or release date appears in the filings.
The model numbers sit close to the existing PlayStation Portal, which carries the identifier CFI-Y1001. That has led to speculation that the certified units are updated Portal models, though Sony has not confirmed what the devices are.
Sony did not immediately reply to a request for comment.
Earlier Portal talk
The current Portal launched in late 2023 with an 8-inch LCD screen. In June, Sony noted that cloud streaming requires minimal memory, describing low-cost thin client devices as attractive as memory prices rise. Earlier this year, hardware leaker KeplerL2 said Sony was working on an OLED version of the Portal for this year, as reported by VideoCardz.
