Pocketpair gets nearly 30 fan pleas to buy Mass Effect in a day

Pocketpair's John Buckley said fans keep asking the studio to buy IP after closures, but asking prices are often far above potential value.

Pocketpair's head of communications and publishing, John Buckley, said he received close to 30 direct messages and emails in a single day from fans urging the studio to buy the Mass Effect IP, according to gamesradar.com. The messages followed EA's announcement that it is shutting down BioWare, the studio behind the Mass Effect series, where a new installment had been in development.

Buckley said the pattern is familiar: soon after a game is canceled or a studio closes, fans send comments and emails pressing Pocketpair to acquire the IP.

He added that buying and selling intellectual property is complicated, and that asking prices are often very high compared with the potential value of the property.

A joking preference

Buckley joked that Jade Empire, another BioWare RPG, would interest him more than Mass Effect.

EA's decision to shut BioWare down was announced this week, and a new Mass Effect game was in development at the studio at the time.
