Pokémon Ghost Grey fan hack launches with 200 Ghost-types
The Gold and Silver ROM hack is set in a ruined Kanto in 2049 and patches onto a legally obtained Pokémon FireRed ROM.
The fan-made Pokémon ROM hack Pokémon Ghost Grey is out now and can be downloaded from its official Hackdex page, according to Screen Rant. The project is a hack of Pokémon Gold and Silver.
Ghost Grey is set in Kanto in 2049, 50 years after the events of Gold and Silver. The region is portrayed as ruined and overrun by ghosts, and the game adds 200 Ghost-type Pokémon to Kanto, 120 of which are new regional variants of existing Pokémon.
The hack also includes a complete graphical overhaul of the Gold and Silver style, with new animations, redone sprites and a redesigned overworld. Its soundtrack contains 130 new songs, and the release adds new areas and quality-of-life improvements.
How to play
Players need a legally obtained ROM of Pokémon FireRed to apply the patch, and the download is available through the Hackdex page.
The Pokémon series occasionally includes horror elements such as Ghost-type Pokémon, towers of the dead and villain scenarios, but generally stays family-friendly. Pokémon Ghost Grey draws inspiration from early 2000s Creepypastas for its original bleak horror story.
