Ratatan, roguelite rhythm-action from Patapon creator, out now
Hiroyuki Kotani's Ratatan launches October 14, 2026, with eight characters, Kobun troops and Rata Karuta cards.
Ratatan, the roguelite rhythm-action game from Patapon creator Hiroyuki Kotani, was officially released on October 14, 2026, according to 4gamer.net. The game is published by TVT.
Set on the adventure planet Redo, Ratatan has players command Kobun troops using rhythm commands. Eight Ratatan characters appear, each with distinct characteristics and Super Fever techniques. Commands such as "seiretsu", "jump", "kogeki", "guard" and "Hustle Waza" are entered in time with the background music using three types of buttons.
Kobun units have independent HP and fight with eight weapon types including swords, spears and bombs. Ratatan also features Rata Karuta enhancement cards with six attributes: fire, water, ice, poison, thunder and wind, along with duo cards that combine two attributes.
Kickstarter origins
The game was funded through a Kickstarter campaign that began on August 1, 2023. TVT announced on August 3, 2023 that the campaign had surpassed 100 million yen in 48 hours, leading to decisions on a home console release and a collaboration with British composer David Wise. The campaign ultimately raised 219,314,335 yen, achieving almost all stretch goals.
