Report: Resident Evil: Requiem physical PS revenue tops all Xbox copies 1.8x

An Alinea Analytics newsletter estimates physical PlayStation copies of Resident Evil: Requiem earned 1.8 times the revenue of every Xbox copy, digital and physical.

Physical PlayStation copies of Resident Evil: Requiem generated 1.8 times more revenue than all Xbox copies of the game combined, digital and physical included, according to an estimate published in an Alinea Analytics newsletter by analyst Rhys Elliot and reported by Eurogamer.

Elliot estimates that physical copies of the Capcom title accounted for 1.3 million units, 15 percent of the game's total revenue and 30.2 percent of its PlayStation revenue.

The newsletter also ranks other recent releases by their share of physical sales. Wolverine reportedly owes 800,000 of its 2.6 million sales to physical copies, along with nearly a third of its total revenue, while 44 percent of Pragmata's copies sold were physical and 44.1 percent of Onimusha: Way of the Sword's sales were physical. Japan accounts for 12 percent of Onimusha's sales and 11 percent of Pragmata's.

Physical copies made up a smaller share elsewhere in the report: 007 First Light, Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced and Crimson Desert each sit under 30 percent of their relevant totals, and FC 27 owes only 8.9 percent of its sales to discs.

Disc debate

The figures arrive after PlayStation founder Ken Kutaragi said on Monday, around October 19, 2026, that discs had become a metaphor for owning games and that anger over their discontinuation was probably a mentality issue. Sony has said it will continue with plans to move away from discs.

Separately, the digital-only, Japan-exclusive PS5 Black has launched in Japan for $350, with a disc drive sold separately for $75.
