RPG Developer Bakin Ver.2.7 Adds Steam Deck Support
SmileBoom's Ver.2.7 update also brings DirectX 12 (beta), GPU particles via Effekseer and alpha-channel WebM video to the RPG creation tool.
SmileBoom released the major Ver.2.7 update for its RPG creation tool RPG Developer Bakin on Steam on October 15, 2026, according to gamebusiness.jp. The update officially announces Steam Deck support for games created and exported with the tool.
The company notes that titles using external DLLs, such as custom plugins, may not work correctly on Steam Deck. Steam Deck compatibility is also judged individually by Valve for each title, so not all works will obtain official verification.
On the technical side, Ver.2.7 allows DirectX 12 (beta) to be specified as the graphics API, and parallel shader compilation improves the startup speed of exported games. Users who run into problems can switch back to the conventional OpenGL version from the environment settings.
The update also makes the GPU particle feature of the effect creation tool Effekseer available. Color grading functions for correcting the color tone of 3D space have been expanded, and playback of WebM format videos with an alpha channel is now supported. A dedicated panel for placing images, pattern animations and videos was added to the layout tool.
Alongside the update, the 'Made with RPG Developer Bakin Game Showcase' is being held on Steam. A sale commemorating the 4th anniversary of the tool's Early Access launch is also underway, with RPG Developer Bakin 30% off and related DLC and bundles discounted.
Prior milestones
