Sega's Sonic Discord Launch Draws 30,000, Then Lockdown
Aaron Webber says moderators restricted chat within hours of the October 5 launch and that wrongly affected users are being unbanned.
Sega's official Sonic the Hedgehog Discord server opened on October 5 and drew more than 30,000 members at the start, according to Aaron Webber, Sega of Japan's director of strategy, studio, and community relations. Within hours, moderators restricted most users' chat access to a members-only role.
Webber addressed the launch in a tweet thread on October 6, 2026, saying strict automatic filters and moderators removed rule-breakers as the server filled up. He added that the team is unbanning users who were wrongly affected and is reworking the spam restrictions.
In the background given by the outlet, restrictions on the server were mostly lifted after order was restored. IGN reported on Webber's comments.
Sonic's On-Screen Future
