Silver Lake and Saudi PIF in talks to buy Unity at $25 billion valuation
No agreement has been finalized; Unity shares rose about 4% after Reuters reported the approach.
Silver Lake and Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund (PIF) have held talks and made contact in recent weeks about acquiring Unity Software Inc. at a valuation of about $25 billion (roughly 3.8 trillion yen), Reuters reported. The two investors together hold about 8% of Unity's shares.
Unity's share price rose about 4% after the report. According to Reuters, Unity is working with investment banks to review its options following the proposal. No agreement has been finalized, and the plans and terms may change.
The approach comes after Unity reported third-quarter revenue of $622 million, up 32% year on year, and its first quarterly profit on a GAAP basis since going public. Its AI-powered advertising platform Vector grew 126% year on year.
Investors already active in games
In August 2026, a group including PIF, Silver Lake and Affinity Partners completed its acquisition of Electronic Arts for $55 billion (over 8 trillion yen). Silver Lake first invested $400 million in Unity in 2017.
Unity previously proposed a Runtime Fee charged on install counts for larger games made with its engine, but withdrew it after strong backlash. The company has recently drawn attention for Unity 7 and its AI development environments Unity Spark and Playground, developed with Google.
