Soulframe opens alpha on November 6, Verse of the Veilands due later

Digital Extremes' fantasy RPG leaves three years of invite-only playtests behind, with an update that corrupts the whole Midrath landmass.

Soulframe will move from invite-only playtests to an open alpha on November 6, Digital Extremes announced, according to pcgamer.com. The open alpha follows three years of invite-only playtests.

A large update called Verse of the Veilands, also referred to as Prelude 17, is planned for later in November. It will corrupt the entire Midrath landmass and task players with restoring it. The update adds a main quest that teaches players how to stop siphons draining the world of color.

Restoring zones changes the enemies and resources found there and unlocks side activities such as fishing. Players will also be able to raise a wolf pup into a full mount.

A new Pact described as a hunter, poacher-type class tied to the alien Ode race will be added, though its name is still undecided. Its abilities include a sci-fi bola, a cone of spikes and a balloon that sends enemies flying. The developers aim to release Verse of the Veilands before the end of November.

A stream on the Soulframe Twitch channel will show the version of Verse of the Veilands content. The team previously said feedback from players who struggled to reach the point where they could freely explore the open world led it to add a more direct intro.
