Valve fixes older-CPU download crashes in new Steam Client Beta
The October 5 Steam Client Beta update also addresses Steam Input configuration, 2015 Steam Controller pairing, Remote Play bitrate and Big Picture network details.
Valve released an update for the Steam Client Beta on October 5 that fixes cases where users with older CPUs could see the client hang or crash when starting downloads for games containing many identical files, according to gamingonlinux.com.
The update also fixes desktop shortcuts that always used the default launch option instead of the saved option, and repairs pairing for the 2015 Steam Controller.
In Steam Input, the configurator now shows a landing page when no configuration file on disk could be loaded, with an option to select a new one. Cloud sync status is displayed more clearly there, along with an option to skip and proceed. Steam Input glyphs for Switch controllers in Heavy Rain were also fixed.
Remote Play's network health dialog now handles its adjust bitrate option more intuitively. On Windows, Big Picture shows wifi versus ethernet and wifi strength in the header.
The Steam Deck Beta Client received the onscreen keyboard and diacritic fixes, which cover dropped presses during dual trackpad typing and diacritic options menu interactions. The same two fixes are included in the desktop beta update.
