Summer Eternal Announces Red Rooster, a Physics-Driven RPG

Summer Eternal's Red Rooster stars an arson investigator in the city of Arta-Tantor; it is built in Unreal Engine with a double-A budget.

Summer Eternal has announced Red Rooster, described as an incendiary, physics-driven RPG set in the tri-partie city of Arta-Tantor. The announcement was made via the Summer Eternal Anthology, a 500-page physical book priced at €69 for the Standard edition and €99 for the Deluxe Firestarter bundle.

Players control Redrick Roost, a white-collar inmate turned arson investigator who partners with an opiate-dependent mathematician. The plot involves a string of arsons connected to Redrick's brother, the city's fire chief. The game is set in a fractalised border archipelago.

Summer Eternal says Red Rooster is fully physics-driven, with many objects to move, manipulate and burn. It is built in Unreal Engine and abandons isometric constraints for a three-dimensional world with dynamic camera movement.

The studio says the game is nearing the end of pre-production and an internal playable tech demo exists. Summer Eternal aims for a double-A production budget. No release date was given.

Summer Eternal's members include Disco Elysium writer and world-builder Argo Tuulik, veteran ZA/UM staff Dora Klindžić, Anastasia Ivanova and Michael Oswell, Aleksandar Gavrilović, secretary of the Croatian Game Development Alliance, and Disco Elysium narrator Lenval Brown. The formation of the studio was reported in 2024.
