SurFun Develops NodeNexus for Steam, Publisher Talks Ongoing

Indie developer SurFun is building the node-based simulation RPG NodeNexus for Steam, with iOS and Android expansion under consideration.

SurFun announced it is developing NodeNexus, a simulation RPG in which every game element is represented as a programming node and no characters appear, with a Steam release planned first. The developer is currently in negotiations with a publisher, though no final contract has been reached, according to game.donga.com.

SurFun said iOS and Android versions are being considered as a follow-up to the Steam launch. The game is designed so that all operations can be performed with one hand using only a mouse, and so that clear screens and clear methods can be easily shared on social media.

The publicly released demo was developed over about two months, while the total development period, including an unreleased updated version, is about four months. Development is currently handled by a single person at SurFun.

Rework prompted by user feedback

The game was inspired by Nintendo's '차근차근 게임 코딩'. It initially received favorable reactions before a low review from a Chinese user, who said it looked like a game from 20 years ago, prompted a full rework.

SurFun intends to support Korean and is looking for localization partners for Korean review after an AI initial translation. The studio is also considering collaboration with new publishers. SurFun began as a club formed by graduate school acquaintances, later incorporated, and now runs a consulting business while developing indie games; its name combines 'Surf' and 'Fun'.
