Switch 2 Zelda 40th Anniversary Edition Hits Japan With Thin Resale Markups

Nintendo's 62,980 yen special-edition console launched October 29 without a bundled game, and Mercari listings sit only about 1,000 yen above list price.

Nintendo released the Nintendo Switch 2 The Legend of Zelda 40th Anniversary Edition in Japan on October 29, according to Automaton Media. The special-edition console is priced at 62,980 yen including tax and ships without a bundled game.

The model carries a Triforce motif across the console, its dock and the Joy-Con 2 controllers. It launched alongside a matching Pro Controller and carrying case set.

Preorders opened from late night on September 8 into September 9 and sold out quickly at the Nintendo Store and at retailers, with the Nintendo Store limiting buyers to one unit per person.

On the resale side, many Mercari listings for the product remained unsold as of the article's writing, and most markups were only about 1,000 yen above the list price. Some online stores were still taking orders, and retailers were reported to still have stock several days after launch.

Earlier Zelda hardware

Nintendo previously released the Nintendo Switch (OLED model) The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom Edition in April 2023. Before this year's May price increase for the console, the Nintendo Store required 50 or more hours of Switch play time to buy a Switch 2.
