Fan finds way to recruit Lilith in original Tales of Destiny
A Majestic Fantasian administrator posted the method, which other players and one of the game's original developers have corroborated.
A legitimate method for recruiting Lilith Aileron in the original PlayStation version of Tales of Destiny has been discovered and shared online, according to Kotaku. The write-up was posted by Azekura, an administrator of the Japanese Tales fansite Majestic Fantasian.
Other players have corroborated the method on both the English and Japanese versions of the game. One of the original developers also confirmed the discovery and apologized for the issues associated with the character.
The presumed requirements include playing through the game without taking items from houses and without being scolded by party members, along with specific conversations and a specific item purchase near the end. Lilith joins the party at level 6.
Recruiting her in the original Japanese version softlocks the game, but the save can be continued on the BEST version.
Developer addresses Lilith's cut features
Tales of Destiny was originally released in Japan in December 1997. The game's PS2 ports only came out in Japan, and it has never been released on modern consoles. Fans had long assumed there were nine possible party members in the original game; Lilith was known to be in the game's code as a playable character and to be recruitable in the PS2 version.
Jun Toyoda, the original producer on Tales of Destiny, said on November 2, 2026 that the Ver.1 release left at least five major bugs, including progression blockers, due to insufficient debugging time, and that Lilith's features were supposed to be cut.
