Toei Games Sets 2027 Slate as Toei Adopts AI Production Rules
Toei president Yoshimura Fumio said the studio has begun using generative AI in film and video production and set internal rules for it.
Toei has established rules for the use of generative AI and began using AI in film and video production this year, the company's president and CEO Yoshimura Fumio said at the Taiwan Creative Content Fest in Taipei. According to Variety, the studio also laid out a 2027 release slate for its Toei Games label.
Toei Games will release Hino in early 2027, followed by Killa and Debug Nephemee from spring 2027. All three are original titles from creators outside the company rather than adaptations of Toei IP, and all three will launch on Steam before rolling out to Nintendo Switch, PlayStation and Xbox.
Yoshimura said Toei wants games to serve as a starting point for stories in place of novels and comics. The label was launched this year to mark the company's 75th anniversary.
On AI, Yoshimura said Toei has a dedicated team testing how far the technology can be used in actual content production, and that the company is building a system to help less experienced producers estimate budgets.
Overseas ambitions
Dreams of Violets, a 75-minute live-action feature made entirely with generative AI by two creators for around $2,000, was selected for the Tribeca Festival in June.
