Crystal Dynamics and Flying Wild Hog are co-developing Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis, a new interpretation of the 1996 original Tomb Raider, and the game will launch on February 12, 2027. Pre-orders are now open on the Xbox Store, with Standard and Deluxe editions available for Xbox Series X|S, according to news.xbox.com.
The announcement came in a post titled "Thirty Years of Lara Croft," published on October 21 US time. Crystal Dynamics brand creative director Meagan Marie is quoted about the title in the article.
A mini-documentary series covering the making of the game is being released on the official Tomb Raider YouTube channel.
Three decades of Lara Croft
In 1996, Core Design in Derby, England, made the first Tomb Raider with a core team of about six developers. Lara Croft was created from designer Toby Gard's concept and went on to appear as a virtual model wearing Alexander McQueen and Gucci in late-1990s magazines.
Crystal Dynamics has carried the Tomb Raider legacy for nearly 20 years, including the Legend, Anniversary and Underworld trilogy. In 2013, the studio rebooted the character with the Survivor trilogy; Marie wrote the first cover feature about it for Game Informer, and later authored the book 20 Years of Tomb Raider.
