Torch & Trigger demo launches on Steam and itch.io
Shibuki Harataki's sci-fi military visual novel is set in a facility that trains child soldiers and is due out in December 2026.
Indie developer Shibuki Harataki has released an official demo for the sci-fi military visual novel Torch & Trigger on Steam, with the same demo also available on itch.io, according to cbr.com.
The demo offers an early look at the game's setting: a facility called Plantation that trains child soldiers to fight machines. Players take on the role of Jin Tokishiro, the top-ranked student at the facility, who is living temporarily with second-ranked girl Mikana Kujo and a mysterious young girl.
That girl is Tsumugi, a five-year-old child genius found living alone in a cabin. She is one of the central characters in the game's cast.
Torch & Trigger is scheduled for release in December 2026. No price or additional platforms beyond PC were given in the announcement.
Familiar ground
The premise follows a well-established strain in Japanese science fiction. Tatsuya Endo's Spy x Family manga, available in English from VIZ Media, centres on characters caring for a five-year-old; its Wit Studio and CloverWorks anime adaptation streams on Netflix, Hulu and Crunchyroll. Asato Asato and Shirabii's 86 light novels, published in English by Yen Press, depict a nine-year war in which San Magnolia's supposedly autonomous Juggernauts are actually piloted by members of the Colorata minority; A-1 Pictures' adaptation streams on Crunchyroll.
